When Investments Go Horribly Wrong

I just finished watching a short PBS documentary about the South China Mall, which is twice the size of the Mall of America and the largest mall in the world. The South China Mall is not only the largest shopping mall in the world, but the most unsuccessful shopping mall in the world. The thing that strikes me most about this story is the scale of failure and its relation to China. Whenever you visit a business website or read a business magazine, you can't seem to escape reading about how much the Chinese economy is growing. How can this mall be such a failure in such a promising economy?



The entire video goes into intimate details showing just how much of a collausal failure the mall has become. The mall director even gives a fairly pessimistic outlook of the future (Now I'm at the maybe I can fix [the mall]. And so, you know, we're still working on it. I don't know where I'll end up). I would encourage you to watch the video yourself. It shows another side of China that you really don't hear about that often.
