by trader ( 66 ) on 2009-09-22 20:04:05Interactive brokers has really competitive pricing for their stock transactions. That's what drew me to them originally. I was coming from scottrade, so there was a definitely a difference in the intuitiveness of the user interface, but it wasn't impossible to get used to. Definitely if you're looking for really cheap commissions, Interactive Brokers is a good bet. If you're a newbie, you might want to try something different.
by trader ( 66 ) on 2009-09-22 20:07:21I started using Scottrade after I got sick of paying 10$ per transaction at Ameritrade (before it became TD Ameritrade). Anyway, Scottrade was really great. The customer service was good, and it was nice that they had branches in my local (mn). At the time, the 7$ commission was really low, but these days, there are so many discount online brokers that 7$ just isn't that great anymore, so that's why I'm giving Scottrade only 3 stars. But overall, it's really great for beginners.
