by Stockspicker on 2011-03-24 12:55:53I have been trading with Scottrade for several years. They seem slow to answer the phone when you have a question. I use there old charting system which is ending in about 35 days. I have become accustomed to it and don't look forward to the change, but it should be for the better. I am limited to watching 20 stocks at a time and only 4 charts with their current system and you can have more on your screen with the new one. I think it was 5 charts maximum. You can't have level ll quotes unless you carry a $25,000 minimum and then you are also able to get their Scottrade Elite. I don't usually get a better price when selling as compared to Zecco where I almost always do better. A few years ago I purchased a stock (not a round lot) and ended up buying one share. I did not have the AON (all or nothing) box checked and learned my lesson on that one. I ended up paying quite a bit more for the stock and also another $7.00 for the trade. The trades have sometimes gone through very rapidly and at other times it seems to take forever. I don't know if it was because of high volume or a problem from them. I guess I would say they are about average and would not be afraid to trade with them. Good Luck Trading!

by azocean on 2011-03-18 20:47:55Offer a few free trades for new customers. It requires $500 minimum, seems attractive to investors with small account, but $7/trade will eat up the portfolio pretty fast. So think through. The tools are not bad. They give explanation to some charts too.

by Finance_Answers on 2009-11-23 14:01:36I have used Scottrade for six years and have had nothing but great service from them. I execute almost all my trades online through ScottradeELITE. Anytime I ever have a question about my account, I simply call the brokerage near me, always speaking to a representative who is very helpful. The one thing I would add is, make sure you add a security question to your account and make sure they always ask you for it. Hope this is helpful.

by chris86 on 2009-10-27 18:40:02I switched from sharebuilder to scottrade about a year ago and haven't looked back. The prices are good and the interface is very user friendly. the only problem i have with scottrade is their research and screening tools are not better than other online tools that are free.

by simp20 on 2009-09-24 13:39:39In my opinion Scottrade is one of the most fair and helpful discount brokerages i have ever used. The research and all the help they give for beginners is probably the best features they have. It was also nice that they have a branch in my home town. They will always work with you.

by trader on 2009-09-22 20:07:21I started using Scottrade after I got sick of paying 10$ per transaction at Ameritrade (before it became TD Ameritrade). Anyway, Scottrade was really great. The customer service was good, and it was nice that they had branches in my local (mn). At the time, the 7$ commission was really low, but these days, there are so many discount online brokers that 7$ just isn't that great anymore, so that's why I'm giving Scottrade only 3 stars. But overall, it's really great for beginners.
